this episode is Part of the Drawing Together live video series – learn more here
We’re back to working with architecture for this episode. This time, it’s something close to home, as I attempt to draw a local grain storage building. Follow along using this reference image: https://bit.ly/2CP0ypz
We want to see your drawings! Share your finished pieces and any tips with us in the comments section below.
Today, I’m working with:
- White sketch paper
- Charcoal pencils (4B or 6B)
- Kneaded and Rubber Erasers
- Shading Stumps
In this session, we’ll cover:
- Drawing and sketching fabric
- Drawing Texture
- Realistic shading techniques
So many angles, so difficult to get the right placement.
Here’s my grain storage. Love the perspective practice
Here is my attempt. Thoroughly enjoyed your explanation on perspective.
Many Thanks!
I need to do some gesture drawing…hard to simplify.
Here’s my attempt. Thought this was daunting at first, but it is actually one of my favorites so far.
Hi Scott enjoyed this lesson on perspective.
Can see that I need more contrast. Like that you went back and added the sky. Are those Easter eggs in your finished work?
I like doing buildings for a challenge. This one had me changing it constantly.
Very nice project! Thank you, Scott!
I found this a fun Session… I really like drawing buildings, more so than Nature… maybe cause it is more ordered, while Nature is not. Thanks Scott for your time and sharing your talent.
Hi All! Thank you for joining me yesterday! Here’s my finished drawing. I put a few minutes extra work into it, adding some subtle suggestions of clouds and refining some edges. I love seeing all of your drawings!

This is my version. I enjoyed working on the perspective .
Thanks for the privilege to learn from a great teacher

Two challenging classes …lots of “angle sighting”! Thanks again Scott for providing these wonderful classes. The recorded classes are a big help too!
The dreaded P word. HA! Interesting session. My husband drew blueprints of cotton gins in his early years so of COURSE he had something to say….
