this episode is Part of the Drawing Together live video series – learn more here

This is way more of a challenge than I thought. Let’s take a stab at drawing facial features. Specifically, drawing a nose and mouth. Follow along using this reference image: https://bit.ly/2B4Ku2b

Today, I’m working with:

  • Hahnemuhle Sketch Paper
  • Ebony Pencil (Graphite)
  • Kneaded and Rubber Erasers

In this session, we’ll cover:

  •  Drawing Facial Features
  • Realistic pencil drawing techniques
  • How to draw a nose
  • How to draw lips

LET’S DRAW TOGETHER & SHARE OUR CREATIVITY!

  1. The top one is graphite on copy paper. I spent a lot of time on the nose and stopped when the video ended. Later tried again with charcoal on some sketch paper. Faces are hard but this is good practice.

  2. Next time I will make sure the proportions are right before continuing and to practice practice and practice some more! My nose is on the long side, but kept my drawing to the draw along time frame. Thank you for another awesome lesson!

  3. Thank you for these lessons. I attempted a drawing of my husband using a 6B graphite pencil, since I don’t have an ebony pencil. I was trying to mimic the style of the reference photo. It was really hard but I enjoy these lessons so much. Your tips are very helpful!

  4. I figure if we all post our noses, mouths, ears, eyes and hands we’re pretty close to having an entire person! AHHAHAHA! I ended up being satisfied with my nose and mouth but certainly not the eyes(although that was NOT the focus)…but I must say I REALLY struggled with the nose. I find it very challenging but a great exercise to start with a blank sheet of paper and work with Scott and see what I have at the end of an hour of work.

  5. This was a tough one. I see things I could have done differently, but I like where it is now so I stopped. Sometimes stopping is a hard thing to do! Thanks again for a great challenge and learning experience.
