Loosening Up – A Path to Painterly Painting

Description: Among the topics I will be discussing are: Strong thumbnail sketches, brushes and brushwork, edges, some color mixing tips and quick painting studies. I will discuss the Notan approach and how I use that along with one or two more values, to arrive at a strong value pattern.

Oil Painting Workshop

Description: In this workshop we will be working every day on simplifying a landscape into its major shapes before we begin the painting. We will focus on seeing the landscape we’re going to paint in only two or three values by doing a small 4×6 sketch with water soluble value pencils in light, medium and dark values before we begin. Our goal will be to have them fit together as large abstract shapes or “puzzle pieces.”

Watercolor Basics, 3 Day Workshop
